Pelvic organ prolapse and pessary fitting

We can help with:

  • Heaviness, bulging into the vagina, perineum or anus
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Difficulty passing a bowel motion or passing urine
  • Pain with intercourse

Our pelvic health physiotherapists can provide a detailed assessment of your prolapse and assess for risk of developing a prolapse.

Management includes addressing lifestyle factors, bowel health, optimising pelvic floor strength and function, assessment of movement patterns and general body strength.

A pessary is a soft silicone device placed vaginally to support a bladder, uterine and/or bowel prolapse. Pessaries can be used to support the vaginal walls and stop the prolapse moving down. A thorough assessment with one of our pelvic health physiotherapists will determine your suitability for a pessary. Our process involves liaison with your GP and/or specialist.
